Chile. With a collection of close to 90 million dollars for the State, the Second 5G Public Tender ended, which was defined today through an auction held at the offices of the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications (MTT), in which the two interested companies participated: Claro and Entel.
The public tender, which tendered five blocks of spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band, resolved that the company Claro was awarded the five blocks of 10 MHz, by presenting the best economic offer: $83,500,000,000 Chilean pesos.
The Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Juan Carlos Muñoz, pointed out that "as a State we have the responsibility to make an efficient management of public resources. In this sense, the radio spectrum, which is the digital highways that enable mobile communications, is a public good whose use must bring benefits to people. The money raised in this auction is of tax benefit and the State will dispose of its use with the corresponding use for all the inhabitants of this country. In addition, the same contest brings with it considerations and measures that were established with a better quality of life to people, such as the lighting of 1,500 kilometers of roads in different areas of the country and mandatory coverage that will allow more people to be connected at all times."
For his part, the Undersecretary of Telecommunications, Claudio Araya said that "today spectrum is necessary so that people can maintain their mobile connectivity constantly and the more applications and services we need on our devices, the more spectrum companies will need to be able to deliver a good service. We successfully closed this tender and we will continue to analyse the conditions of the sector to identify the need for a new tender. We are also happy because we see a healthy, competitive market with actors eager to continue investing in Chile, which shows the attractiveness of our sector that, in addition, with its public policies contributes resources to the State."
